On our desk today is author Carla Sonheim's book Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists. Carla Sonheim is an artist and creativity workshop instructor known for her fun and innovative projects and techniques designed to help adult students recover a more spontaneous, playful approach to creating.
Her innovative ideas are now collected and elaborated on in this unique volume. The book offers a year's worth of assignments, projects, ideas, and techniques that will introduce more creativity and nonsense into your art and life.
Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists offers readers a fun way to learn and gain expertise in drawing through experimentation and play. There is no right or wrong result, yet, the readers gain new skills and confidence, allowing them to take their work to a new level.
Inside there are some great drawing expercises that free up your mind and that unleash your creative side, a lot of the expercises take me back to my college drawing classes. Oh how I miss those classes.
This book is yet another guilty pleasure picked up at the Border's going out of business sale at the Arizona Biltmore. I purchased the book in part as a way to get back into drawing and/or sketching everyday and a way to keep up with my five-year-old nephew named Aidian who is working on a sketchbook project for me.
I gave my nephew 4 sketchbooks and a pack of colored pencils as a Christmas present, with instructions to sketch on every other page whenever he can and once he is finished to send the sketchbook to me and I will draw on the blank pages to complete the book. The ssketchbokks will serve as a way for the two of us to estanblish a visual form of communication.
Aidian's mother and grandparents had told me that he is sketching everyday and that I should expect a sketchbook soon, so this book is a way for me to prepare for his shipment. I am really looking forward to seeing what he sends, in the mean time I'm starting my own sketchbooks.
